Department of Accounting & Business Law

The leading Accounting and Business Law department in the Nordic Region

The Department of Accounting & Business Law is Finland's leading Accounting and Business Law department. Our department consists of both Finnish and international faculty with expertise in Accounting and Business Law areas. Our research covers a broad range of industry-relevant issues and is regularly published in the top Accounting, Finance, Management, and Business Law outlets. Our ongoing research explores the impact of Digitalisation, Sustainability, and Inclusivity initiatives on Accounting, Auditing and Compliance activities in firms. Our faculty members take socially relevant roles supporting political decision-making, advising businesses, and steering firms' strategies.

Our department is very well networked both nationally and internationally. Our excellent seminar series covers both Management and Financial Accounting topics, attracting top researchers from all over the world. We have close tie-ups with leading businesses both for teaching and research purposes. Our faculty members regularly write opinion pieces for leading media houses in Finland, and international media reports have cited some of the cutting-edge research from our department.

Theoretically advanced and practically valuable research enables us to provide industry-relevant education at both bachelors and masters levels. We regularly benchmark our bachelor and master level programmes against leading Nordic and European Accounting programmes. In our course and curricula design, we take input from our alumni and industry experts. We believe Accounting and Business law are essential parts of financially sound strategic solutions to often complex and ambiguous managerial challenges. Our degree programmes equip students with relevant skills enabling them to succeed in today's turbulent job markets.

New research: Labeling carbon footprint affects the choices of mass catering customers – and the labeling method matters, too!

A recent study conducted in Germany shows that customers in a student canteen choose low-emission meals when presented with the carbon footprint of meals. This effect was strongest when the information was color-coded in a traffic-light scheme and translated into environmental costs in euros. According to one of the researchers, these findings could also be relevant for Finland, where mass catering is particularly popular.
